Meet the 3 C’s of your learning experience:

Chapel. Class. Choir.

Biblical challenge. Musical understanding. Choral training.

Vocal Ensemble

Vision:

We endeavor to cultivate an experience that is relationally, musically, and spiritually rewarding—a journey that challenges singers personally while building camaraderie as humble servants to our audience. Through shared choral worship, we strive to create moments where hearts are lifted and voices unite in a common purpose. Our repertoire blends the fresh with the familiar, drawing from both old and new works that are accessible to singers and listeners alike, yet offer musical challenges that foster growth and deepen motivation.

How do I know if I’m ready to apply for Vocal Ensemble?

Participation in the Vocal Ensemble requires basic competence in sight singing and rudiments, reasonable vocal ability, and prior choir experience. You will receive your music before camp and must be able to learn your pitches and rhythms reasonably well before coming to camp.

Prerequisites:

Applicants must have taken Rudiments II and Sight-singing II or equivalent. Preference will be given to applicants who have taken voice lessons or class voice.

Application Process:

Applicants must apply during registration and choose the Vocal Ensemble option. You will be provided a common hymn to sing for the audition, and you will be asked to send in a recording of yourself singing the melody of the hymn. You will be notified via email of the results of your audition. If you are not accepted into the Vocal Ensemble, you will be placed in a mixed choir at camp.

Additional Cost:

$50 (refundable if not accepted)

FAQs

How old must I be to attend Music Camp?

Ohio Camp adult students must be at least 18 years of age. Children and Youth ages 8-17 may participate in Children/Youth Camp.

No previous instruction is necessary. This camp is for anyone who is interested in taking their musical abilities to the next level. The starting place is less important than the desire to learn and the willingness to be taught. Our goal is simply to help each person attending take “the next step” forward in their pursuit of excellence.

We recommend that students begin their music study with Rudiments and Sight Singing alongside choir participation.

Due to homework assignments and the full schedule, we recommend enrolling in two classes and using the additional class period for study and homework.
Homework is a regular requirement of SCMC classes. Because the schedule is full and study time is minimal, campers should plan to use one class period as a regular study period.

Changes to class selections are permitted until April 15 for Ohio Camp, after which a $25 fee will be charged. Desired changes should be directed to the registrar via the Contact Us page. Changes requested by instructors during the camp week will incur no charge.

SCMC campers participate in both a mixed choir and mass mixed choir. Choir members complete a questionnaire (choir rubric) which guides the process of creating balanced choirs. See the Choirs page for more details about the choirs.

Applications for Adult Full-time and Part-time students will be accepted through May 15th, as space is available; however, applications received after April 1 will incur an additional $50 fee to cover additional processing expenses. We do not guarantee the availability of books and music for students applying after May 1.

Mass Choir applications are accepted through June 10.

Your attendance at chapels, classes, and choir rehearsals maximizes your camp experience. Your absence impacts you and your classmates and fellow choir members. Please do not be absent without first communicating with administration.
Lodging for the week is available in area homes Sunday – Sunday (8 nights) at Ohio Camp. Lodging before or after these dates may be arranged upon request. If you prefer, you may arrange your own lodging.
