Rudiments 3: Intervals – a study of intervals and minor scales. If you sign up for Rudiments 3, you will receive a placement test to make sure you are in the right class.
Rudiments 4: Chords – a study of triads, triad inversions, and dominant seventh chords. If you sign up for Rudiments 4, you will receive a placement test to make sure you are in the right class.
Sight-Singing
Sight-Singing aims to help you read new music as easily as you read a newspaper. Students learn various tips to help in sight reading, and have opportunities to practice skills through class exercises.
Sight-Singing is divided into Levels 1–4. You should choose the Sight-Singing level that corresponds to your Rudiments class level. If at camp you find this is too high or low for you, you can switch classes.
Music Education
How can learning music be fun? Age-appropriate activities, folk songs, and games taught with the Kodaly method make class engaging. Adult students will role-play as grade-school students, participate in discussions, and receive tips for lesson planning. This class is meant for music teachers.
Class Voice
Leading Congregational Singing
This course is an introduction to basic elements of conducting a group and will build foundational skills applicable to classrooms, choirs, and congregations. Participants will conduct hymnbook-level music in class for instructor and peer review. Both men and women are welcome.
Prerequisite: A working knowledge of music equivalent to SCMC Rudiments 1 & 2. Instruction will not include remedial Rudiments-level teaching.
Textbook: Local hymnal will be used. Other material provided by the instructor.
Children's Musical Skills
Join the choir and experience the joy of singing in a group.
Students say it’s their favorite part of camp!
Choir is a fun way to put the things you’re learning in class into practice.
Three Adult Mixed Choirs
These are choirs with men’s and women’s voice parts. Each full-time student will be assigned to a mixed choir.
Adult Mass Choir
All students can participate in the mass choir, as well as community members who aren’t taking other classes.
Children & Youth Choirs
Ages 8-12 and ages 13-17
Chapel is both a time of worship and a time to strengthen your ability to worship in singing.
In chapel, we reflect on the meaning of worship as it is taught in Scripture and we respond to God in love and obedience. At the same time we practice worshiping God. Chapels help to orient the focus of camp around what really matters: God’s presence and his kingdom.
These sessions are open to the public – all are welcome!
