Children's Camp

Children’s Camp is held Monday to Friday from 9:20 AM to 3:30 PM and offers musical instruction in both classroom and choir settings. Chapel sessions, craft activities, and times of recreation help to make Music Camp a fun learning experience for children in Grades 1-9. The Children’s Choirs present several songs at the concluding Choral Sing.

Note: Early Childhood Music and Kindergarten Camp are not offered in 2018.

Choir Groups

Children are divided into two different children’s choirs (Junior and Senior) based primarily on their grade level (the school grade they finish before camp). If your child is in Grades 1-4, they will be placed in Junior Choir. If your child is in Grades 6-9, they will be placed in Senior Choir. If your child is in Grade 5, their choir assignment will be determined by the registrar depending on the number of Children’s Camp students in the other grades.

Musical Skills Groups

Children are divided into three different musical skills levels based on their grade level (the school grade they finish before camp).

Students who are in Grades 1-3 participate daily in a Children’s Choir, elementary music class, craft time, chapel, snack, lunch, and recreation.

Students who are in Grades 4-6 participate daily in a Children’s Choir, intermediate music class, craft time, chapel, snack, lunch, and recreation.

Students who are in Grades 7-9 participate in daily in a Children’s Choir, recreation activities, lunch and snack. They also participate in Adult Chapel and Sight Singing classes. Optionally, they may enroll in Adult Rudiments (additional $95 class fee plus textbook costs apply) and begin their day at 8:20 AM with the main Music Camp.

Weekend Activities

On Saturday, children should be at Calvary United Church at 5:15 PM for practice and dress rehearsal. Regular camp attire is acceptable. Children should have supper prior to coming to practice.

On Sunday, the formal Choir Sing begins at 3:00 PM on Sunday afternoon. Children should be at Calvary United Church before 2:00 PM, dressed in their formal choir attire.

Junior Choir (Grades 1-5a)

Following their part in the program, Children in Junior Choir will sit with their parents in the designated place in the audience. Children in Junior Choir will be the responsibility of their parents for the remainder of the afternoon program, and for the time between programs. Parents may choose to either stay at the facility, or to go home between programs. Parents of Junior Choir students may also choose to leave with their children immediately following their child’s presentation (approximately 3:30 PM in the afternoon and 7:30 PM in the evening). All children are to be back to their rehearsal places by 6:45 PM in preparation for the evening program.

Following the afternoon program, a light supper will be provided for Junior Choir students staying at the church under their parent’s supervision.  A supervising parent staying at Calvary United Church between programs will have the option to buy a supper from the camp or to pack their own supper.

Senior Choir (Grades 5b-9)

Children in Senior Choir should bring games and books to occupy themselves quietly during, and between programs. Following the afternoon program, a light supper will be served. After dismissal of the evening program, children are once again the responsibility of their parents.
