Children’s Musical Skills
Instructors, Level I: Gwendolyn Good; Level 2: Sarah Sommers; Level 3: Dwilyn Beiler
Children’s Musical Skills covers a sequence of melodic and rhythmic elements that will equip students with skills for reading and singing unfamiliar music. It is recommended that this class be taken in conjunction with the Children’s Choir and is intended for school-aged children. Literacy skills in rhythm and melody will be presented, along with activities to make the content enjoyable. Students will be divided into levels based on age, and will not be tested for placement. The class will be structured in such a way as to be achievable for those without prior learning but also to be challenging for students with former music experience.
On Saturday, children should be at ChoralFest venue for practice and dress rehearsal by 4:45pm. Regular camp attire is acceptable. Children should have supper prior to coming to practice.
On Sunday, the formal ChoralFest begins at 3:00 p.m. Children should be at the ChoralFest venue by 1:00pm, dressed in their formal choir attire. Children may bring games and books to occupy themselves quietly during and between programs. Following the afternoon program, a light supper will be served. After dismissal of the evening program, children are once again the responsibility of their parents.
