Early Childhood Music

Early Childhood Music

Early Childhood Music provides an opportunity for young children to explore sound in song.  Strong melodies and age-appropriate activities delight the joyful nature of a child.  Singing with a child plays a significant role in shaping the child’s language skills, memory capacity, emotional stasis, and motor skills.

Each class will provide a rich musical experience appropriate to the age of the child.  Classes explore a child’s capacity to interact with song, and populate their long-term memory with strong sounds that will aid them in developing language skills.  In the sections where parents are present, remarks will be directed toward the parents (interspersed with the children’s activities and at the end of class) regarding childhood development and the importance of filling a child’s experience with love, emotional predictability, and a wide variety of language based activities.

Age divisions between the first three sections (Infants-Toddlers-Preschool) are a guide.  Children develop at various rates and we want to provide a place that is best suited for them in their current stage of development.  Parents should use their best judgement in enrolling their children in these programs based on their stage of development.  Advice can be received from camp administration on request.

All Early Childhood Music classes run from Monday through Friday.  The camp charges one application fee per household for all camp events (including Children’s Camp and Adult Camp).  If your household is not involved in any other camp activities, a $20 application fee will apply.

Infants

Fern Ebersole

In the Infants class, parents will sing and play with their child throughout the class.  Parents of the unborn, newborn, and children up to approximately 18 months old are invited to attend.  Each child in class must be attended by an adult.

Note: the first class (Monday) will be for adults.  Infants may be present if they are quiet.  For those children who need more activity, child care is available during this class.  In this class, Fern will discuss the need for an auditory-rich environment for young children and how singing with a child plays a significant role in shaping the child’s language skills, memory capacity, emotional stasis, and motor skills.

Time: 11:05-11:45 Monday through Friday

Cost: $45 (plus application fee, if applicable)

Toddlers

Joseph and Fern Ebersole

In the Toddlers class (suggested ages 1½ to 3 years), children will sing and play independently.  The song and play will focus on language and motor skills, strengthening attention span, and exercising problem-solving skills.  An adult will attend their Toddlers in class the entire time for the first two classes.  After that, adults are invited to withdraw to the edge of the room or leave according to their wishes for their child, or according to the child’s needs.  In this class, an adult may oversee more than one child.

Time: 10:10-10:50 Monday through Friday

Cost: $45 (plus application fee, if applicable)

Preschool

Joseph Ebersole and Gwendolyn Good

In the Preschool class (suggested ages 3 to 4½ years), children will sing and play independently.  The song and play will focus on language and motor skills, strengthening attention span, and exercising problem-solving skills. Children may be dropped off by adults for the class.  Supervising adults are welcome to sit in the first class until their child is comfortable in the new environment.

Time: 9:15-9:55 Monday through Friday

Cost: $45 (plus application fee, if applicable)

Kindergarten

Kindergarten

Joseph Ebersole and Gwendolyn Good

The Kindergarten section is a half-day program for children who have not yet attended Grade 1 at school or homeschool and could have been enrolled in Junior or Senior Kindergarten in the past school year (birth years 2011 and 2012).  It includes children’s chapel, music classes, and other activities. Music classes will be highly interactive with emphasis on music skills development.

Time: 9:15-11:45 Monday through Friday

Cost: $65 (plus application fee, if applicable)

For an additional fee of $30, children enrolled in the Kindergarten section may stay at camp until 3:30 in the afternoon Monday through Friday based on one of the following conditions:

  • their parents are enrolled at camp
  • they have a sibling enrolled in Children’s Camp and it is inconvenient for parents to commute twice daily for pickup

Afternoon activities include lunch, rest time, snack, and playtime monitoring. There are no further structured activities in the afternoon.
