Hymn Contest – Composers
Each year Shenandoah Christian Music Camp sponsors a contest for an original text and tune for a new congregational hymn. This year we selected “The World Lay Languishing” from among the new texts submitted.
This opens the second stage of the hymn contest. Anyone is welcome to compose a hymn tune for this text. The field is open–let the music begin! The deadline for the compositions is March 1, 2014. Send your questions to firstname.lastname@example.org .Hymn Contest Details
The World Lay Languishing
The world lay languishing in pain,
By darkness veiled, by care oppressed.
And every conscience bore the stain
That gives the heart of man no rest.
Life was a fleeting, troubled span;
Creation sank into decay;
Till from her multitudes, a Man
Stepped forth and called Himself the Way.
He walked the Way; His every tread
Bore hope and healing for mankind;
His living word restored the dead,
His touch was sight unto the blind.
Almighty Saviour to the lost,
Forgiver, Healer, Friend was He;
Redeemer, all at His own cost!
And now He calls us “Follow Me”.
Ah, Lord, we hear Your ringing call!
And your compassion moves us still;
And we would humbly give our all
To walk Your Way and do Your will.
Give us Your mercy, to impart
The bread of life, the light of day;
Give us the passion of Your heart!
Teach us to do Your work today!–James Troyer
